When Doctor Who Gave a Scammer a Time Machine
Never thought that this would be how I first cover the Fourth Doctor on my channel, but I guess that's fitting lmao. In the latest Patreon commission I take a deep dive into the Big Finish audio drama "The Tribulations of Thadeus Nook" and...it's certainly something.

The Most Disappointing Doctor Who Finale | Empire of Death Review
Просмотров 40 тыс.16 часов назад
So Doctor Who Series 14 is finally over. After all sorts of adventures through time and space, the 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday's adventures concluded with S14E08: Empire of Death, the climactic finale featuring the dramatic return of Sutekh. This finale promised a lot, but...it didn't deliver. Why? Well, that's what we're here to find out! ► Patreon www.patreon.com/harbowholmes ► Subscribe! ruc...
Did This Cliffhanger Work? | Legend of Ruby Sunday Review
Просмотров 26 тыс.14 дней назад
Despite seemingly only just starting, the Doctor Who Series 14 finale is already upon us! The Legend of Ruby Sunday is the first part of the epic climax and sees The Doctor asking for UNIT's help to reveal the identity of the mysterious Susan Triad and the identity of Ruby Sunday's birth mother, before everything goes wrong, the TARDIS turns evil and a bad dog shows up. But is it any good? As a...
Why I Didn't Like Rogue | Doctor Who Review & Analysis

This definitely won't be controversial at all. Doctor Who Series 14 is nearing the end and we just took a trip back to Bridgerton-land for S14E06: Rogue, where The Doctor and Ruby Sunday face off against weird bird cosplayers alongside legally distinct Captain Jack Harkness. I wasn't a fan. But why? What about this episode didn't work for me? Well, as always, that's what I'm here to find out! ►...
Doctor Who Does Black Mirror | Dot and Bubble (Review & Analysis)

So Doctor Who just dropped "Dot and Bubble" the fifth episode of Series 14, which takes us to the social media dystopia Finetime, where giant slugs are eating entitled rich influencers as The Doctor and Ruby Sunday try to save the world from behind a screen. Doctor Who is so back! After a polarising opening run of episodes, Doctor Who Series 14 has really delivered with Steven Moffat's newest masterpiece: Boom (S14E03). This incredible story traps the 15th Doctor on a landmine as he and Ruby Sunday are forced to try and save the day without their usual skills. Good review of Empire of Death! I will admit I did enjoy the story and I feel like Russell is doing the Moffat approach for this story. I was happy that Ruby got to reunite with her mother. Maybe there will be more questions about Ruby in the next series. I wonder if Susan's return is the next series story arc?

I think they could simply have different doctors for different play styles. Have 3,9,7 as the direct combatant play type. Have 7,4,5 as a type of builder who can disable and reapply enemy force. Have all the modern doctors except 9 and 12 be stealth infiltrators who use perception filters and psychic paper to get past enemy encounters. Maybe it could play like a mix of hitman and mass effect. You use the environment to deal with enemies. But you can travel the cosmos and recruit jack and river to help with the fighting if you want.

Name of the Doctor is a far superior episode. It wasn't Steven Moffat's strongest finale as he was still in his playing with the rules of time travel phase instead of his grounded and character focussed phase. However, compared to Russel T Davies' abomination, it looks like a masterpiece. 1) It provided an actual payoff for the Impossible Girl arc. 2) All of the characters were better, apart from maybe the Great Intelligence. Ironically, replacing the Intelligence with Sutekh would have probably worked. 3) Matt Smith emphasizes how much of an amateur Ncuti Gatwa is. 4) It introduced John Hurt and set up Day of the Doctor, which is the peak of Doctor Who. Now compare that to Empire of Death 1) There was no payoff for Ruby's supernatural existence. Russel T Davies is such an imbecile that he unironically ripped off Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi. 2) It disrespected Sutekh. Even though the Great Intelligence didn't quite fit in with Name of the Doctor, Steven Moffat treated it with respect. 3) Ncuti Gatwa is a terrible Doctor. 4) This is probably the last time Gabriel Woolf will ever voice Sutekh. He deserved to go out on a high note, not on this trash. Empire of Death can kiss Name of the Doctor's boots but if not for Millie Gibson and Gabriel Woolf, it wouldn't even be worthy of doing that.

My one complaint is the ending where Catherine saves the day. Like couldn't she push the Kelly demon into the portal without jumping in herself? 🤷‍♂️

  • @tomnorton4277
    @tomnorton4277 15 часов назад

The only good things about this episode were Millie Gibson and Gabriel Woolf's acting and Sutekh's design. Millie and Gabriel are both far too good for this shit, so the fact that they signed up for it actually makes the whole thing sting more. In Millie's case, wasting her time and talent on this makes sense. She's a young actress who thought she was getting her big break. I feel bad for her because she was suckered into a shitshow. I hope she gets roles that are actually worthy of her talent after this. Gabriel doesn't have that excuse. He knows what good Doctor Who is and this late in his life, he can rest on his laurels and be proud that he was part of The Pyramids of Mars, The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit. Despite that, he still signed on. Granted, listening to him deliver Sutekh's dialogue is awesome but he should never have been part of such bad episodes in the first place. Sutekh should have returned in either Matt Smith's era or Peter Capaldi's era. The best place to use him was as a replacement for the Great Intelligence in Series 7. Of course, The Snowmen would need some changes due to Sutekh having nothing to do with snow but the basic story would stay the same. It could stay in Victorian London with Vastra, Jenny and Strax tagging along with the Doctor and Clara since Sutekh is immortal and therefore not confined to the Egyptian era. Furthermore, Sutekh would thrive in the Doctor's Time Stream, so Clara would still need to throw herself in after him. And Steven Moffat could have even had Sutekh be curious about Clara's echoes but his attempt to destroy the Doctor caused her to create them. This could also account for how Sutekh didn't figure her out because it never crossed his mind that HE was the reason the echo Clara's existed. I'm not sure where to put Sutekh in Peter Capaldi's era. There's nowhere that you can really slot him in without disrupting the story. However, Capaldi would have no doubt been ecstatic to have a chance to work with Gabriel Woolf. They could have had an episode where Sutekh casually points out that Capaldi was a sociopathic piece of shit in his first season. Heck, maybe Sutekh's even disappointed that his worthy enemy sank so low because there's no satisfaction in destroying the Doctor when he's not in his prime.

We can retcon it again. 1. Davros - can restored. 2. The Doctor - actually wasn't bigenerated it was the toy-maker playing the Doctor. 3. The Doctor was and is from Galafray, the memories were implanted. 4. The doctor knows the universe and doesnt need to be told what to do. 5. It didnt work for Donna and her memory has to be wiped again. Her child died as she wasn't real, and it was how she coped.

Just watched this one and positively loved it but the scope of this world seemed a bit to large for the ending... But its hard to believe a reversion in tolerance... But depending how far into the future it is no way to really know I suppose. Just saying as skmeone who isnt a spring chicken not evennmy oarents were raised that way so that as a future for hunans is questionable. I'm fine with the message of fighting intoleranc3 and bigotry but I think that ending didnt work for me. I was really hoping their wealthy parents had sent them tk the planet to stop sucking off the family wealth so that thry could keep it all ro themselves.

Imo early Big Finish was a mesh but a very charming mesh. Quality was over the place and you either got terrible stories or amazingly enjoyable ones no middle ground. But after that... I don't know, they're just sort of there. The lows are higher and the highs are lower but I have a really hard time finding stories that are particularly memorable. I'll check this one out I guess.

The new era isn't necessarily bad, but it just doesn't have the magic of RTD's first era. The care that he took back then to develop his characters and world just isn't as present this time around. It actually makes me wish that we had gotten someone new after Chibnall left.

I think the problem for the telefilm was mostly that it required the U.S. audience to show up for it to be successful... and it just wasn't that big a show back then. Oh, Doctor Who wasn't completely unknown... but it was still very much a cult t.v. show (unlike Star Trek... which had grown to be very mainstream). For most of it's run... it aired on Public Television in North America... not a big U.S. network. So relaunching with FOX ratings being needed for it keep going... that was just pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking. This was the next manifestation of a quintessentially British show... but now it had to appeal to North American audiences as well. And I think that didn't go well with the British audiences. And I say that as someone who doesn't hate Doctor Who: The Movie. I think it's got some big problems... but Paul McGann instantly became a Doctor I wanted to see more of. But that just wasn't in the cards. I've always had an appreciation for the fact that Doctor Who was not a Hollywood production... and that involving Hollywood in the show can make it feel less than like the show it should be.

The show doesn't have a canon. The only constant is the Dr's POV, so to disregard Big Finish (A vast amount of which is flat out better than the show anyway)especially when the Dr has made direct reference to certain events in the show, is really quite foolish.

I don't think Time crashes are ordinary, I think the TARDIS just likes them and seeks them out. Same way it knows where to show up that the Doctor will be needed. See when I think of the Kennedy Assassination I think of The Master being there because of a novel, but you think of the 9th Doc being there. Funny that. And another example of how Adric could've been saved... 😆 I could dispute that but won't bother cause it's 🤣

I think that leaving the idea of Rose Tyler: Earth Defense is a good idea. To have her reprise her roll later on is better. If they made the spinoff series, especially so early in the revival of Doctor Who, would have confused many of the DW fans and would make it more difficult to concoct the meta-crisis Doctor where to be permanently be planted in the alternate time line with Rose. One spinoff worth watching would be of River Song, how she borrowed the tardis every once in a while and was able to return it exactly back where it was supposed to be. How she had more control over the tardis than the Doctor had baffles me. Also for the tardis to allow her to take joy rides without the Doctor's permission sounds interesting too.
